Metallic Cliff

This painting was completed and brought home today. I started this project on April 12 and finished it June 26. I used palette knife and acrylic paints (paintbrush for the waves in the lower left corner)

The second and third pieces I ever painted

Painted in 2011. I still need to photograph the first painting I ever painted at my current studio (which would be the start of this whole process). Its great to see how far I've come as an artist and how I've really developed my own technique, style, and skill set.

Above is a painting of Nicky, my dear budgie who passed away in 2010.

This is a 'creative' project I did. I remember how much I struggled with coming up with creative decoration for the silhouette's head. This painting is actually very similar to my latest completed work (in the post below)... they are both blank female profiles with 'fantasy' headpieces. I really like the concept of this work... I just can't believe I signed my name in such an inartistic and, well, ugly, way! oh well!

Something new...

I finished this painting last week. I never painted anything so abstract before... it was cool. There isn't really any significance to this painting (the empty face and the cityscape don't really signify anything) except for the silhouettes of two birds, one on either side of the girl. I added those in to commemorate my beautiful budgie, Ricki.

This painting was done using paintbrush and acrylic paints. With my current project, I'm using palette knife again :D I didn't take this painting home yet as its part of a "portrait" themed art show at my art studio!

An Elephant

Started this painting around June 2013 and finished it today, finally! (Although I probably missed 3 months of art class, so it didn't actually take that long :) )

Anyways, this painting was done using palette knife (most of the elephant) and paint brush (everything else)

My next project is something really different - an abstract, creative portrait. I'm excited to get started on it!

A while back... Daisies

I painted this in 2012 (late upload, I know - reason being that I gave this painting to my grandma and kept forgetting to bring my camera to take a photo of it :P)

Anyways, this painting was the "black background" project that my art teacher assigned me. The daises were done using palette  knife.

For Dad...

Back wall done with palette knife & tree done with paintbrush.

I liked that this painting combined both painting techniques as well as two different styles. The contrast between the stingy, dark, 'trashy' wall and the pure, light and "full of life" tree as a theme is really cool. I definitely want to work with this idea again.

MR. Flamingo... probably my favourite!

Please excuse all the wall space in the photo:P
I painted this flamingo back in 2012 using only palette knife. I'm extremely happy with how the background and the body of the bird turned out :D

Giraffe !!!

I just brought this guy home last weekend :D This was painted completely by paintbrush... decided to take a break from the knives. Thankfully, the otherwise detailed tree and (especially) giraffe are just black shadows so I actually enjoyed painting them:) I guess this painting is a bit simpler.. though the tree, the leaves and the branches on the ground required some time and effort!

More Rockkkkkks

This painting of some place in Ontario (i forget.. oopsiiesss) was completed a month or so ago. I used brushes for background (sky, water, waves) and palette knife for the cliff :D This canvas is actually a gallery canvas, meaning that it is thicker than regular canvases.. so the painting sort of continues onto the 1 inch sides.

Onto the 2012's....

These were both painted in 2012, also inspired from different photographs.

\
The painting above is of a Canadian landscape and it was my second painting by palette knife.. (you could say my first legitimate one as the painting in the previous post was much smaller, simpler and less detailed) I remember having trouble in the middle of the process.. I had to redo the further rock-mass a million times before I was satisfied. haha

After spending nearly forrrrrevvverrr perfecting the rocks above, I decided to try something new and paint (using a brush) these flowers. Although they came out nice... this was when I discovered that painting precise details (with shading and gradient and all) was totally NOT my thing. I was in a bit of a standstill with this painting because painting the same flower over and over again got pretty tedious and a little bit boring... oh well :P
